People With Migraines Are More Predisposed To To Suffer From Depression
Women suffering from headache, especially migraine, are more inclined to suffer from depression disorder, feel worn-out, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The clinical trial involved 1500 man who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in six US regions. Of the people tested, 871 reported occasional headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 656 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were tested with migraines.
The study found people with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Psychotic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more inclined to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.
Among patients tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms can incite or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Depression can heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Careless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric disease such as Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer consequences for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The clinical investigation was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American patient suffer from headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 17000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating people care through enlightenment and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a general practitioner specialized on monitoring, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and frequent sclerosis.
